COVID-19 Remote Learning
Good morning Emerson students and families,

I hope you all are healthy and doing well during this difficult time. First, I wanted to ensure that everyone knows our time out of the school has been extended to April 27, per the Governor's order. I would also like to stress the importance of practicing social distancing during this time. The faster we are able to slow the spread of COVID-19, the faster we can get back to normal life and the fewer lives lost to the pandemic. We miss seeing our students in person and want all of our students, family, and staff to stay healthy.

It seems that everyone that needed a Chromebook has checked one out and everyone now has internet access. I am glad that students can continue to work on their courses so they can continue to progress towards their graduation requirements. This morning I received some additional guidance from OSPI concerning graduation requirements. We will work within all of the options we have available to help seniors continue to meet the guidelines required to graduate this summer.

We also want to make sure that students and families are doing okay. We know that this is a stressful time for our students, staff, families, and our community. We have created a form and placed it on our remote learning page so students and families can let us know of additional support that may be needed. Please take a look at it and submit responses as you see fit. This form and all updates are at the following link: https://www.emersonacademy.net/remote-learning-b00c3985

I also want you to know how proud I am of our students and staff. This transition has not been easy, and there was little time to prepare and launch our remote learning program. However, our team has been diligent in working to support students, and a good number of students have been very productive in their courses. Please keep up the excellent work. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me as needed.

Messages from staff:

Shout out to Luis C who is getting his hours in and almost finished with two classes! A reminder to my CB students that we still have our twice-weekly meetings via text chat or Google Hangouts at our original times unless you request a change in time. You guys rock and I'm proud of you for sticking with schoolwork during this time! -Erica Fox

All of the students that have been working regularly are showing great progress, and I appreciate them putting in the time. Particularly I want to congratulate the Morgans for both doing a great job in catching up recently. - Chris Gusta

Hi Emerson Academy students and parents,
My working hours are afternoon and evening from 2 pm-11 pm with a two-hour dinner break from 6-8 pm in case you need to reach out during those hours. This means I will be logged in to Edgenuity and checking in on students during these times. My new work number is 323-977-9705. Texts and calls to this number go directly to my cell phone. Students can text or call during my non-working hours as well. I will always have my phone on me; however, I might be out at the park social distancing myself in the sunshine. We are all in this together. Take care, Hillary (Ms. Hilly) Hover

I would like to thank all the parents and grandparents and other adults in our students' lives for encouraging them to keep up with their coursework and put in those 5+ hours every day on their studies. It looks like spring is making a comeback. With the nice weather and that extra hour of daylight in the evening, there are hours during the day to both get school work done and get outside for some fresh air and recreation. It's really exciting to see the good progress that many are making with diligent effort. It is my pleasure and honor to help each student in their quest for success. I wish you all the best always. - Vern Pederson

Hi Emerson Families!
I hope everyone has been doing well, adapting to this new normal. While there are undoubtedly many questions for what the rest of the school year holds, I'm happy we're still able to support our students in gaining school credit during this time. Personally, I'm struggling not being able to see students IRL, but remain available by voice/text/face time at: (360) 224-8073 - ERIC HOLL

Sincerely,
Ross Baker
